    Overview:

Perhaps you are a healthcare professional who trained in Clinical Hypnosis at the Level I and Level II (Beginner and Intermediate) workshops in the past, and are now not utilizing Clinical Hypnosis routinely in your work. Maybe COVID changes to healthcare, the demands of personal life, the utilization of telehealth, or other reasons have led to this pause.

Now you want to reintroduce Clinical Hypnosis into your practice to answer client/patient needs and/or for personal reasons, or because you’ve heard about its efficacy in addressing a range of clinical issues.

This course will include a brief introduction to Clinical Hypnosis components, a live demonstration of a Clinical Hypnosis encounter with progressive relaxation, followed by discussion. The remainder of the course will include small group practice opportunities with whole group discussions.

⚠️ Note: This course is not meant to provide suggestions for treating specific disorders, nor is it intended as therapy for attendees seeking relief from their own disorders.

The purpose is to give previously trained professionals a review of a Clinical Hypnosis encounter and opportunities to practice, increasing their knowledge, readiness, and confidence in using Clinical Hypnosis.

    Prerequisite:

Completion of an ASCH-approved Level I (Basic) and Level II (Intermediate) Clinical Hypnosis training is required. There is no time restriction on when these trainings were completed.

    Date: September 14, 2025, 10am-1:10pm EST

Cost: $100 for Non-Members; Registration fee included for NESCH Members in good standing.

At least 30 days’ notice is required for a full refund. There is a $30 cancellation fee for cancellations after August 15, 2025.

    Objectives:

By the end of this refresher course, participants will be able to:

    1. Identify the basic components of a Clinical Hypnosis session: Elicitation (induction), Intensification (deepening), Suggestions, and Re-orienting (re-alerting).
    2. Discuss attunement with a patient/client as necessary for an optimal Clinical Hypnosis experience.
    3. Describe and analyze a demonstration of a Clinical Hypnosis session using progressive relaxation.
    4. Demonstrate the ability to practice, observe, and critique Clinical Hypnosis in a small group setting, alternating roles as Practitioner, Subject, or Observer.

    Workshop Description:

In this intensive workshop, participants receive in-depth training in both the theory and practice of clinical hypnosis from some of New England's leading hypnosis practitioners. The workshop is composed of a mix of didactic presentations, demonstrations, experiential exercises, and faculty-led small group practice tailored to the specific needs, interests, and learning styles of workshop participants.

Clinical hypnosis deepens the work of mind-body practices such as mindfulness meditation. Adding hypnosis allows our clients/patients to become even more deeply aware of their inner states and fosters awareness of their own strengths, resources, and problem-solving abilities. There has been extensive research demonstrating its effectiveness in treating a number of mind-body conditions, and in expediting habit change, facilitating pain management, and enhancing treatment of depression and anxiety.

    Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to incorporate the following in their clinical practice:

    • Identify and demonstrate four ways to facilitate hypnotic trance and appropriately reorient patients from a trance state.

    • Demonstrate three strategies for facilitating intensification of trance.

    • Describe four conditions in which hypnosis might be successfully utilized.
